Summary
We are looking for highly motivated candidates to join a team of physician scientists, scientists, postdoctoral fellows, technicians and students to support research on childhood neurologic disorders and genetic diseases. The Research Technician III will provide responsible technical assistance in support of research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to basic and translational research in neuroscience and genetics. https://www.bcm.edu/research/faculty-labs/hsiao-tuan-chao-lab
Job Duties
- Perform research experiments to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations under the supervision of principal investigator.
- Record and summarize research data generated from experiments, prepare figures and analyze data for presentations and publications.
- Coordinate, collecting, ordering, shipping and receiving of research materials and biospecimens.
- Maintain and organizes inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Aseptic cell culture for production, maintenance and propagation of cell lines.
- Genetic engineering techniques like PCR, cloning, transformation, transfection, and library preparation.
- Molecular biology techniques like RNA and DNA extraction, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, Southern blotting, ELISA, and other assays.
- Work with small rodent and fruit fly models of neurologic disorders.
- Immunohistochemistry, imaging analysis, and behavioral assays.
- Use of office suite, instrument interface and other software for data collation and analysis.
- Maintain and generate standard operating procedures and regulatory paperwork including laboratory protocol approvals and training documents.
- Assist with training new lab members.
- Attend and present at weekly research meetings with PI and study team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience working in research laboratory.
- Experience working with cell culture, animals models, molecular biology, and tissue collection.
- Must be able to do some moderate lifting.
